Overview Events Dialogues

Sophia Moretti (36) is the warm, chatty proprietor of the town diner, as well as Juliet's mother. She specializes in Italian Jewish dishes.

Sophia is Jewish and Italian-American, but has never visited Italy - she feels no need to travel. In contrast, her late husband Giacomo, was born in Italy. Ever since his death, she has struggled to adjust to life as a widow, and she sometimes goes to the graveyard to speak to Giacomo's grave. She's trying to keep her tiny family tight-knit, but she feels like Juliet is pushing her away.

Relationship Cutscenes[]

New Acquaintances (expand)

How to initiate cutscene: After gaining one full heart, meet Sophia on Friday after work by her cafe to trigger cutscene.
Dialogue:

Tara: Hi Sophia!
Sophia: Good Shabbos, Tara! Have you seen Juliet? She was going to help me, but I can’t find her and I’m running out of time! We are not going to abandon all of our family traditions because Giacomo is gone!
--[Choice: Can I help?]
-Tara: I agree, Sophia, family traditions are important. Let me help until Juliet arrives.
-Sophia: Oh, that would be amazing! I’m almost done… just one or two more things to finish…
--[Choice: She’s being a teenager]
-Tara: I agree traditions are important, but Juliet probably forgot that it's Friday. Teenagers can be flaky sometimes.
-Sophia: You're right, I shouldn't take it personally. But really, is a special dinner one night a week so hard to remember?
--[Choice: Make a simpler meal?]
-
Juliet: Hey mom. Sorry I’m late.
Sophia: There you are! Well, I’m glad you made it back in time! Luckily for you, I had Tara to keep me company while I waited. Tara, will you join us?
Tara: No thanks, I should get back to the farm. Good night!

Casual Friend (expand)

How to initiate cutscene: After gaining two full hearts, enter the cemetery on Sophia’s day off.
Dialogue:

Sophia: Hi Tara.
Tara: Oh hi Sophia. I didn’t mean to interrupt.
Sophia: It’s fine. I come here… whenever I want to tell Giacomo what’s been going on, with me, with Juliet. Tell me – do you believe the dead can hear us?
--[Choice: Gramma “talked” to Grandpa]
-Tara: I don't know, but one time I heard Gramma "talking" to Grandpa. It seemed to make her miss him less.
-Sophia: Robert was a good man. People here really respected him.
--[Choice: I plan to when I’m a ghost]
-Tara: Oh, I hope so. I totally plan on eavesdropping on my loved ones when I’m a ghost!
-Sophia: Haha, well if you go first I’ll be sure to watch what I say!
--[Choice: I focus on life]
-
Tara: Well, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go visit my grandpa.
Sophia: Of course. Nice seeing you, Tara.

Good Friend (expand)

How to initiate cutscene: After gaining three full hearts, enter the flower shop on Saturday and a cutscene will start.
Dialogue:

Violet: You did not seriously offer honey… to Thomas?
Sophia: He ordered pancakes, we were out of maple syrup… what else was I supposed to do?
Violet: He hates large-scale honey farming. Says honeybees don’t pollinate as well as wild bees, like bumblebees. They’re more susceptible to colony collapse, yada yada yada… I can’t believe he didn’t give you a whole lecture. He must be sweet on you, and not just for your pancakes!
--[Choice: Sophia should date Thomas]
-Tara: Violet’s right, I think Thomas likes you, Sophia! You should go on a date with him!
-Sophia: Oh my, I’m not ready for dating yet!
--[Choice: Can you help me with Thomas?]
-Tara: If Thomas really does like you, maybe you can help me persuade him to teach me more about farming!
-Sophia: Oh, I'll certainly try! I think he'll warm up to you eventually, Tara.
--[Choice: Thomas seems to like Lina]
-Tara: I don't know Thomas very well, but he seems like he might have eyes for Lina.
-Sophia: Oh yes, he's carried a torch for her for years! See, Violet, even Tara can tell he's not interested in me!
Sophia: Thomas and I are just old friends and I’m happy to keep it that way! Violet, you should leave the matchmaking to the professionals!
Violet: I’m worried, Tara. Sophia holds Giacomo on such a pedestal, I’m afraid she’ll never let herself get close to anyone else.
Tara: We’ll help her, Violet. She just has to move on in her own time.
Violet: I hope you’re right.

Best Friend (expand)

How to initiate cutscene: After gaining four full hearts, visit Sophia at Cafe Moretti during her work hours.
Dialogue:

Tara: Mmmm, what do I smell? New item on the menu?
Sophia: I’ve been experimenting! I’m adding some new authentic Italian dishes to the menu. My husband was from Italy, did you know that? I never had the chance to visit his family. He and Juliet once, to meet his grandmother when she was still alive. Have you traveled much, Tara?
--[Choice: I prefer home]
-Tara: No. I believe that there is so much to explore close to home if you look deeply enough.
-Sophia: I feel that way too! Juliet is so restless, but there is a world of possibilities right outside her doorstep!
--[Choice: It’s too expensive!]
-Tara: No, I really have never been able to afford world travel.
-Sophia: Me either. Three plane tickets anywhere was a lot! That's why only the two of them went to Italy.
--[Choice: Yes, I love it!]
-Tara: Yes, and I can't wait to go off somewhere again! I get so bored being in the same place.
-Sophia: Really? I'm never bored here. But then, I'm more interested in people than in places.
Sophia: After they got back from Italy, Juliet would hardly talk to Giacomo. She said something about her great-grandmother being weird, but that was all. But Giacomo’s grandmother didn’t speak one word of English! She couldn’t have said anything to offend Juliet. Teenagers!
Tara: My dad didn’t talk to my grandpa for a long time, and he was hardly a teenager. They made up after I was born.
Sophia: Well, at least they patched things up before Robert passed. I wish Juliet and Giacomo had that closure. Always tell those you love how you feel about them, Tara. Don’t wait.
