Otto Soft (35) is the mayor of Fairhaven and Vanessa's husband. You'll find him at the Official Fairhaven Town Hall, where he acts as the town greeter. He seems friendly, but he struggles to express any deeper emotion, especially since his mother passed away. Otto doesn't drink, maybe as a way to set himself apart from his hard-drinking father, Bruno.

Relationship Cutscenes[]
Note: When the game was initially released, players could only reach one heart with Bruno. This was later increased to three hearts in an update that extended the story beyond Year 1. As a result, only one cutscene will trigger during Year 1.
Friends (expand)
- How to initiate cutscene: After gaining one full heart, find Otto at the base of the waterfall in the Mountain Pass on Saturday at 11 a.m.
- Dialogue:
Tara: Hey, Otto. I didn’t expect to see you out here – wait, what are you picking? You usually, uh, ask me to cover this stuff.
Otto: I was uh… well, the weather was so nice today, and I… All right, fine, fine! I’m picking flowers for my dad! My mom’s birthday is coming up, and Dad hasn’t been the same since she passed. The mountain pass was her favorite place, so I thought… maybe Dad would like some blooms from up here?
Tara: I thought you were embarrassed by your dad.
Otto: I… can’t comment on that at this time. What I will say is that I admire his ability to express his emotions. I would rather not share my feelings like that. Because I’m the mayor, I mean. It wouldn’t be professional.
--[Choice: Mayors have feelings]
-Tara: Hey, mayors have feelings, too!
-Otto: Wouldn’t it be better if they didn’t, though?
--[Choice: I understand]
-Tara: I understand why you feel that way. But professionalism and having feelings can co-exist!
-Otto: Holding public office means being strong. Unassailable. You know what happened to Antonio Miranda, right? He had to withdraw from the mayoral race because he left himself vulnerable!
--[Choice: Try the bar]
-Tara: Why don’t you try having a drink at Damon’s? That might help you express yourself.
-Otto: N-no! I mean, alcohol is bad for your skin. That’s what Vanessa says. Besides my dad’s pretty busy there most nights. He’s run up a tab bigger than his biggest catches…
Otto: Well, I have enough for a small bouquet. I should be going! No time to waste! But first, here’s a sentiment that feels appropriately mayoral to share: I appreciate everything you’ve done for Fairhaven, Tara.
Tara: Wow, Otto. You’re welcome – He’s already gone…
