Marty is the new ranch owner in town and has also moved to Fairhaven from the city. His self-confidence and excitement at starting a ranch seem to outweigh his actual ranching skills.
Most of the townspeople are suspicious of his intentions, and his interactions with Tara suggest he’s hiding something. Although Mayor Soft handpicked Marty to run the ranch, they rarely see eye to eye and Marty ends up running for Mayor in the Fairhaven election.
Marty raises and sells livestock which the player can purchase for their farm after building the chicken coop or barn.
Life Before Fairhaven
Not much is known about Marty’s life before moving to Fairhaven. He mentions he was a businessman but hasn't said what kind of business he did - something about consulting?
Upon his first introduction to Tara, he’s about to use a last name starting with 'Ma-', before using Emerson, suggesting that he may have gotten into trouble in the city and is starting over in Fairhaven.

Tara: Uh, is this a bad time?
Marty: Oh, I don’t even care enough to be embarrassed any more. I can’t get close enough to Mootilda to milk her.
Tara: What, she’s not a Marty fan?
Marty: It’s more than that. She got her vaccine shots recently, and now she’s skittish. She won’t let anyone approach her. I never thought ranching would be easy, but I never imagined it could be this hard. All my life, I worked for my dad in the city, helping him with his consulting business. I’m used to sending rapid-fire emails and picking the perfect spot for a business lunch, but calming animals? Why did I think I could figure this out? Maybe I should just go back to the city.
--[Choice: You’re doing fine]
-Tara: You're learning something new, so give yourself a break! You're doing fine.
-Marty: Well... I suppose that's true. I appreciate the perspective shift.
--[Choice: Calm down]
-Tara: Just act calm and soothing. Animals can tell when you’re desperate.
-Marty: I know, I know. But it’s hard to just be calm when I don’t feel that way!

-Tara: Maybe Mootilda knows you're just using her for the social media likes.
-Marty: I would never --! Okay, maybe I've posted a few pics of her, but she's a cow! She doesn't know what phones are!
Tara: Why don’t you try approaching her slowly and speaking in a gentle voice?
Marty: If you say so… it’s okay, Mootilda, I’m not going to hurt you.
Tara: No, no, you have to use a real baby voice.
Marty: Are you a good girl? Are you a cow? Have you ever been a cow? It worked! You’re a cattle genius!
Tara: I have many talents.
Marty: Thanks for helping me. You could have just walked away. But you didn’t.
