Kai Hoapili (27) is a Hawaiian man who runs the pop-up novelties stall in the town square. When he's not working, he's surfing, or just relaxing. He lives an easy-come, easy-go life, which has led to a maxed-out tab at Damon's bar. As a child, Kai had debilitating asthma and couldn't participate in many sports.
He was determined to become a surfer anyway, and eventually went pro. Kai ended up in Fairhaven after a surfing visit left him injured. While he recovered under Amira's care, he decided to stay and run the pop-up stall.
But Fairhaven is remote, and sometimes Kai feels cut off from the rest of the surfing world.
He's considering going back to surfing full-time, but he also wants to stay in Fairhaven and spend time with you. (Only if in a relationship with Kai.)

Kai: I got worked over by this closeout and my leash snapped. I just don’t get why the wave didn’t bring my board in, though. It was new, and it’s so hard to get longboards shipped here! So what are you doing on the beach. Collecting seashells or something?

Tara: Um, spilling his secret also makes you kind of a terrible wingman! But I appreciate your heart being in the right place.

Tara: Kai, can I help? I can wait for the delivery guy and direct him where to go.
Kai: Really? I would be so stoked if you did that! But tell me the truth – do you think I’m like, too obsessed with surfing? That’s what everyone tells me.

Kai: Tara, it’s not just the view I wanted to share with you. The only person I’ve ever told is Dr. Syed. I had asthma when I was a kid. Like, it was really bad. But one day, I saw these surfers ripping down the line and I knew I had to be out there… For a long time in my life, I felt like I couldn’t take a deep breath, physically and like, spiritually, you know? I think that’s why I’ve jumped around so much. But with you, it’s different. I just want to stay put and breathe life in. [Gives Kai’s Pearl Necklace]
Tara: Wow, this is gorgeous! Where did you get this?
Kai: I found the pearl on the beach back home in Kauai. I don’t know why, but it makes me think of you. I would be super stoked if you accepted it.

Tara: Is that a yes? Will you marry me?
Kai: I will marry you so hard! Should we elope right now? That would be epic!
Tara: I agree, but let’s wait a little. Like, until next week?

Gloria: When I last saw Kai, he didn’t live here full-time. What a pleasant surprise to find out that now only is he a year-round Fairhaven resident… … but he’s putting down roots by marrying the liveliest woman on this island.
Damon: Ag, I’m tearing up over here!
Gloria: Kai, do you take Tara to be your wife?
Kai: I sure do, brah!
