Before Tara is able to raise chickens she must help Mayor Soft restore the ranch next to Thomas's farm (costing 80x wood, 50x stone, 10x iron ingots, and 1000 coins) and have Parker restore the chicken coop on her own property (for 100x wood, and 1000 coins). Restoring the chicken coop requires you to first clear out the surrounding area and so a copper pickaxe and (at least) a copper wood axe are also required. You can also get eggs from Dahl General Store.
Raising Chickens[]
Chickens can be purchased from Marty at The Hayseed Homestead for 250 coins. They take one full week to grow from chicks into adult chickens, at which point they will start laying one egg per day. Though all chicks are identical, adult chickens may be white, brown, or black!
Chickens require one serving of chicken feed per day and can be pet to improve Tara's relationship with them. Chickens who have not yet been fed will have an exclamation mark over their head (similar to the appearance of villagers with quests available). After # days of not being fed, a chicken will fall ill and need to be cured using a Cure Animal Sickness Potion (unlocked through a questline with Aryel).
Selling[]
Having a good relationship with your chickens does not influence the amount or quality of eggs they lay; rather, it increases the price for which you can sell them to Kim or Marty. (Note: Kim will not buy chicks before they've matured)
