The Barn is a space where Tara can raise cows for milk and sheep for wool. It is unlocked after restoring the chicken coop and completing the upgrade quest titled A Barn in Stable Condition. The upgrade costs 120 wood, 60 Iron Ingots, and 1800 coins and takes 2 days to complete.
Cows and sheep both require one serving of hay per day until Tara builds the Hay Field, which allows the animals to graze. Animals who have not yet been fed will have an exclamation mark over their head (similar to the appearance of villagers with quests available). After 1 day of not being fed, an animal will fall ill and need to be cured using a Cure Animal Sickness Potion (unlocked through a questline with Aryel.)
Tara can also pet them to improve their relationship with them. Having a good relationship with your animals does not influence the amount or quality of products produced; rather, it increases the price for which you can sell them to Kim or Marty. (Note: Kim will not buy baby animals)

Calves can be purchased from Marty for 1500 coins and mature to adulthood in one week. Each adult cow produces at least one milk per day.

Tara: This is it? I went looking for it but I wasn’t sure. Remember the time I milked Bessie, and she kicked over the milk bucket? I hid in the barn because I thought you would be mad!
Gramma: Haha, no use crying over spilled milk! Or a barn that got blown down in a storm, I suppose. I had to give up keeping cattle.
Tara: So, does that mean this is…
Gramma: Yep. The chicken coop. After Merlin passed, I didn’t have a dog to guard the chickens and they kept getting picked off. I chopped up the coop for firewood.
Tara: Oh. That’s a shame. Do you think we could restore them?
Gramma: I’m sure we could, but after that old ranch closed up, the nearest place to get more animals is miles away. If Mayor Otto would bestir himself to do something about that then fixing up these buildings would be light work for Parker.
